UDMR will not support a government that would depend on the votes of AUR, SOS Romania, or other parties considered extremist, Deputy Prime Minister Tanczos Barna said on Friday at Parliament. The formation's position comes after the nomination of Siegfried Mureșan for the office of prime minister.
Tanczos Barna stated that UDMR welcomes the nomination and that the party also supported Mureșan approximately three months ago, when he was proposed for the office of prime minister by the three parties involved in the political negotiations. The deputy prime minister emphasized, however, that the main objective is to form a stable government, not a political arrangement with a perspective of only a few months.
“We emphasize once again that we will not participate in forming any government that will need the support of AUR, SOS, or other extremist parties. UDMR will not participate in such political arrangements; therefore, we believe that next week those negotiations must resume in order to provide another alternative, another perspective, and stable governance for Romania in the medium term. We believe that the rotating premiership can still be a solution for a solid political arrangement. The details, of course, must be discussed in political negotiations with the Social Democratic Party,” Tanczos Barna said in the joint statement with the designated prime minister.
