UDMR President Antal Arpad said, after talks with designated Prime Minister Luca Niculescu, that the party is willing to support the investiture of a government, even if it is not part of the future cabinet. The only condition considered essential is ruling out cooperation with the sovereignist parties AUR and SOS.
The meeting was described by the UDMR leader as “very frank and constructive.” The main topics were the government program and the economic and social difficulties facing Romania.
Antal Arpad emphasized that the country urgently needs a government, as the economy is fragile. He called for programs to preserve and create jobs, index pensions, and reduce imbalances in society.
UDMR is awaiting the positions of PSD and PNL before deciding whether to join the government. The party expressed a preference for rebuilding the former coalition, but is not insisting on receiving ministerial portfolios. The statements were made in the context of negotiations held by the designated prime minister with parliamentary parties to secure the investiture vote.
