PSD President Sorin Grindeanu said Friday that the social democrats are close to forming a majority in Parliament, based on cooperation protocols with smaller political groups. He argued that this majority will be presented transparently “if there is a nomination for prime minister”.
Grindeanu specified that, if he is nominated prime minister, he will publicly announce the parliamentary groups on which he relies. The PSD leader thus rejected the idea of secret political agreements and stated that the party does not support the formation of a technocratic government.
The statements come in the context of negotiations to form a new Executive. Grindeanu believes that “people should lower the tone a little, let’s leave populist issues aside” in order to form a government.
Interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan supports the option of a transitional, “truce”-style government, led by a technocratic prime minister and consisting mainly of technocratic ministers.
