PSD President Sorin Grindeanu says Romania could already have had a fully empowered government capable of changing the country’s economic direction if restoring a stable majority had been prioritized over political and electoral calculations. He made the statement on Friday in a Facebook post, after five months of political deadlock.
The Social Democratic leader says the parties must choose between prioritizing the people, the economy and the national interest and identifying political formulas aimed solely at securing a government’s investiture. According to Grindeanu, the PSD supports restoring a majority alongside the PNL and UDMR and is prepared to assume responsibility for governing.
He makes this solution conditional on an economic program designed to revive the country, protect purchasing power and stimulate investment to create jobs. Grindeanu stresses that negotiations should not be limited to the number of votes needed in Parliament, but should also address the future executive’s ability to make decisions and implement them.
In this context, the PSD president points out that nearly 90% of Romanians believe the country is heading in the wrong direction and calls on parliamentary parties to respond with concrete measures.
