The online economic agenda over the past week was dominated by pressure on public services and energy — from Metrorex’s financial difficulties and the risk of traffic disruption to the price increases announced on the electricity market — alongside signals concerning the competitiveness of the automotive industry and the relocation of some Dacia production. At the same time, attention focused on Romanian investments and products of European relevance, as well as the fine received by Philips Romania.

An assessment conducted through the NewsVibe platform, which integrates artificial intelligence technologies to analyze content from the mass media and social networks, indicated the publication of 22,715 economic-related materials during this period, in relevant web sources, on Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok in Romania. The processed data revealed ten entities that benefited from increased visibility in the digital environment, analyzing both the factors behind this growth and the contribution of online channels to the dissemination and consolidation of the messages. The ranking of trending topics is based on new trends that emerged over the past week.

Top 10 trending entities in the economic context:

1.Metrorex

2.Mihai Bordeanu

3.Eugeniu Carada

4.Marian Artimon

5.Teaca Kneaded Cheese

6.Energy Command

7.Intelligent Energy Association

8.Nutella

9. Novo Mesto

10. Philips Romania

Metrorex, USLM, and Marian Artimon: Financial deadlock and sexist remarks

Metrorex is facing a financial deadlock, while USLM trade unionists, through their president Marian Artimon, warn that the subway could be shut down due to the lack of a budget and the risk of salaries not being paid. He also said that, in reality, the cost of a subway trip is estimated at 14 lei without subsidies. In addition to the financial problems, Marian Artimon sparked controversy through sexist remarks about women in Metrorex’s management.

Mihai Bordeanu and Dacia: Warnings regarding competitiveness and the future of production

Mihai Bordeanu, head of Automobile Dacia, warned that the plant in Mioveni is losing competitiveness because of high energy costs compared with other Renault plants. He emphasized that production could decline and that the future of models such as Duster and Bigster in Romania is not guaranteed, putting “the ball in the Government’s court” to resolve the issue. The Novo Mesto plant also appears in the ranking in the context of moving production of the new Dacia models to Slovenia.

Eugeniu Carada: The NBR launches a commemorative banknote

The National Bank of Romania (NBR) will launch, starting on September 14, a commemorative banknote for collecting, dedicated to Eugeniu Carada, one of the founders of the NBR. It will be printed on a polymer substrate and have a limited circulation.

Teaca and Teaca Kneaded Cheese: European recognition for a traditional product

The European Commission approved the registration of “Teaca Kneaded Cheese” as a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) at EU level. This traditional Romanian product, originating in northern Romania and made from raw cow’s milk, becomes the 18th Romanian product recognized and protected at European level.

Energy Command: The critical situation of the energy system

The Energy Command convened amid pressure on the energy system, affected by the prolonged drought. The reactors at Cernavodă could remain shut down until the end of September, while Cristian Bușoi, state secretary at the Ministry of Energy, announced that although the security of supply is not in danger, the system remains on alert.

Intelligent Energy Association and Hidroelectrica: Price increases and warnings

Hidroelectrica, the cheapest electricity supplier, announced price increases for new customers and contracts reaching their end. The Intelligent Energy Association warns that these price increases could trigger increases of 10–15% at other suppliers as well, and consumers are advised to compare offers on the market.

Nutella and Kinder: Ferrero opens a factory in Romania

The Italian Ferrero Group, producer of the Kinder and Nutella brands, will open a state-of-the-art industrial facility in Timișoara, thus confirming a major investment in Romania. The company has already acquired the necessary land.

Philips Romania appears among the trending economic topics as a result of the visibility generated by the fine of 5.18 million lei imposed by the Competition Council for incompletely providing the documents requested during an unannounced inspection. The subject linked the company to the broader investigation into possible anticompetitive practices on the market for certain medical equipment, while the detail concerning the deletion of the WhatsApp application from a work phone intensified media interest. Specifically, a company employee uninstalled the WhatsApp application from a mobile device used for professional purposes, thereby restricting inspectors’ access to information potentially relevant to the investigation.
