The German Minister of Defense, Boris Pistorius, announced on Tuesday that Germany intends to invest approximately 16 billion euros by the end of this decade to prepare its army to face the threats posed by drones.
During a visit to troops in Friesland, he emphasized that in the coming days a 'drone action plan' will be launched, which will include various measures. Pistorius mentioned that incidents involving drones have increased in Germany and Europe, occurring above military installations and critical infrastructure, which represents a significant challenge. Although these incidents are below the threshold of military confrontation, they generate insecurity, especially in the context of recent events in Latvia and Romania. The minister highlighted the progress of the German army in acquiring modern anti-drone systems and emphasized the importance of training soldiers in detecting and intercepting drones. He warned about the risks associated with shooting down drones, stressing the need to have appropriate equipment to minimize collateral damage.
