President Nicusor Dan sent a congratulatory message to Romania’s Jewish community on the occasion of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year 5787. The message was delivered by Honorary Adviser Eugen Tomac during a ceremony held at the Palace of Parliament.
The head of state wished good health and peace to the leadership of the Federation of the Jewish Communities of Romania and to the entire Jewish community. Nicusor Dan stressed that the holiday has special significance this year, as it coincides with the 90th anniversary of the unification of the Jewish communities and the establishment of the Federation.
The president praised the Federation’s role in preserving and affirming Jewish life in Romania, as well as its cooperation with the Romanian state and civil society. He highlighted the contribution of Romania’s Jews to the development of culture, education, the economy, science and public life.
In his message, Nicusor Dan said that Rosh Hashanah serves as a reminder of the importance of peaceful coexistence, solidarity and human dignity. The holiday’s traditions include blowing the shofar and a festive meal featuring apples and honey, symbols of a good and sweet year.
