President Nicușor Dan paid tribute to Romanian firefighters on Sunday, marking Firefighters’ Day, and underscored that the success of rescue missions depends on a spirit of sacrifice, professionalism and human solidarity.
In a message delivered on the occasion, the head of state highlighted the courage of those who take on risky missions to save lives and protect communities. He said firefighters are on the front line of emergency response, in a context where risks are becoming increasingly complex and difficult to anticipate.
Nicușor Dan cited the war in Romania’s vicinity, wildfires, floods, extreme weather events, technological accidents and threats to critical infrastructure among the challenges requiring the strengthening of civil protection.
The president praised the participation of Romanian firefighters in international and European missions, saying that their professionalism is also recognized beyond the country’s borders. He called for a modern culture of resilience through training in institutions, schools, communities and families, as well as investments in infrastructure, artificial intelligence, drones and early-warning systems.
At the end, Nicușor Dan conveyed to firefighters “our deepest gratitude” and wished them “Happy anniversary!”.
