Nicușor Dan delivered a message dedicated to commemorating 154 years since the death of Avram Iancu

President Nicușor Dan conveyed today, September 13, a message dedicated to commemorating 154 years since the death of Avram Iancu, one of the emblematic figures in the history of Romania and of the generation of 1848. The message was conveyed in the context of the national commemorations in Țebea, where, year after year, thousands of people gather to honor the memory of the “Prince of the Mountains.”

The head of state emphasized Avram Iancu’s role in mobilizing Romanians in Transylvania and in the struggle for recognition and equal rights. According to him, Horea’s Oak and Avram Iancu’s grave have remained symbols of gratitude and collective memory.

In his message, Nicușor Dan drew a connection between the ideals for which past generations fought and the current security situation. He stated that the war launched by the Russian Federation against Ukraine shows that freedom, sovereignty, and the right of peoples to determine their own destiny are not won forever.

The president advocated strengthening Romania’s security, keeping the country within the community of Western values, and cooperating with partners and allies to defend peace and the rules-based international order. He conveyed that the memory of the heroes must be preserved through a society built on respect for democracy, development, and modernization.
