The organizers of the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix will modify the track at Madring after a race with few overtakes

The organizers of the Spanish Grand Prix will modify the configuration of the Madring circuit for the 2027 edition, after the first race held on the new track featured little overtaking and a spectacle considered modest.

Sunday’s Grand Prix was won by Kimi Antonelli, but the race failed to excite the drivers either. Gabriel Bortoleto, who finished 13th, said he “almost fell asleep” while driving for more than an hour and a half at an average speed of approximately 200 km/h. According to the driver, the competitors’ main concern was following the car ahead, as overtaking was almost impossible.

Nor did the drivers on the podium enjoy many duels on the track. Luis Garcia Abad, the race director, told Motorsport.com that the International Automobile Federation had already established the directions for improving the circuit.

Madring will have to be reinstalled for next year’s race, and the organizers say they have the space and infrastructure needed for modifications. The changes are expected to create more overtaking opportunities at the 2027 edition.
