The former commander of the U.S. Army in Europe, General Ben Hodges, stated that a Russian invasion of NATO would have devastating consequences for Russia, emphasizing that the Alliance's forces would quickly destroy Russian military bases in Kaliningrad and Sevastopol. Hodges compared an attack on Poland to the invasion of Ukraine, stating that NATO forces would respond immediately and with force. He acknowledged that, in the past, dependence on Russia for energy resources was a mistake, and Russian aggression had not been sufficiently sanctioned. He also highlighted that better preparation of NATO countries could have changed the fate of Ukraine. In this context, the NATO Secretary General and ISW analysts mentioned that Russia is preparing for a conflict with NATO, although this scenario remains unlikely. Martin Jaeger, head of the German foreign intelligence service, warned that Russia could launch a military attack against a NATO member state before 2029.
