Anders Fogh Rasmussen, former NATO Secretary General, warns that Ukraine faces the risk of an "eternal war" and a slow loss of territory, provided that Europe does not intensify pressure on Russia. In an interview, he proposed the deployment of NATO troops and the creation of an air shield to protect Ukraine from Russian attacks. Rasmussen emphasized that if Poland and other countries would agree to host these air defenses, Russia would understand that an attack on Ukraine would be an attack on the entire NATO alliance.
He also called for the formation of a European protection force for Ukraine before a ceasefire agreement, stressing that the current strategy will not lead to peace negotiations, as Putin has no reason to engage in dialogue. Rasmussen discussed the need to provide Ukraine with long-range missiles and proposed using frozen Russian assets to finance the purchase of weapons. He emphasized that Europe must recognize the threat from Russia and act quickly to change Putin's mindset.
