At the Security Conference in Berlin, Ingo Gerhartz, the head of NATO's Allied Joint Force Command in Brunssum, stated that although Western countries are not at war, the Russian threat has undermined peace. He highlighted the need not only for a strong military but also for a resilient society. Gerhartz mentioned that Russia observes the bureaucracy in Europe and uses tactics to create discord among NATO allies.
The general emphasized that the Alliance must be prepared for large-scale attacks and stressed the importance of technology in warfare, which is evolving rapidly. He pointed out that the West must act now to develop deterrence capabilities, warning that collective defense should be the plan B, and a reliable deterrent must be the priority.
