General David Zini has been appointed to lead Shin Bet, Israel's internal security service, for a five-year term, with the approval coming after a unanimous decision by the government. Although his appointment was contested by the attorney general, the responsible committee validated it. Zini, known for his extreme vision and opposition to negotiations for the release of hostages, will officially take office on October 5, in the context of a changed security reality following the Hamas attacks on October 7.
