The Israeli Knesset's National Security Committee gave the green light on Monday to a bill that provides for the death penalty for perpetrators of terrorist attacks, a measure supported by the far-right National Security Minister, Itamar Ben Gvir. The amendment to the Penal Code is set to be put to a vote in Parliament for a first reading. The bill aims to deter acts of terrorism by imposing a mandatory sentence for terrorists convicted of racially or hate-motivated crimes. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu supports the initiative, and Ben Gvir has threatened to suspend cooperation with the right-wing coalition if the law is not voted on by November 9.
