Donald Tusk warns of a possible intensification of Russia's operations near Poland: “Russia's escalation has become a fact”

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk warns that Russia could intensify its hybrid operations in the coming weeks and months, following a series of incidents near Poland’s border with Ukraine. Warsaw is raising its alert level and preparing for the possibility that the escalation of the war could also affect Polish territory.

Tusk convened a special meeting with ministers and security officials on Sunday, stating that “the escalation has become a fact.” The prime minister said authorities would operate under a heightened regime amid reports of increased Russian activity.

The warning comes after a Russian drone struck the locomotive of a passenger train traveling on the Kyiv–Warsaw route near the Polish border. Another aircraft hit a gas station, setting two trucks on fire.

Tusk says Russia could use more dangerous drones, including aircraft powered by jet engines. Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz announced that Polish systems had detected more than a dozen Geran-5 drones in western Ukraine. One came within approximately one kilometer of Poland’s border, while another came within about five kilometers. Polish aircraft are periodically deployed to monitor the airspace during attacks on western Ukraine.
