Poland temporarily closes two airports after Russia's drone attack in western Ukraine, near the Polish border

Poland temporarily closed the airports in Lublin and Rzeszów on Thursday after Russia launched a new drone attack on western Ukraine, near the Polish border. Explosions were heard a few kilometers from the border, while Warsaw scrambled military aircraft and activated its air defense systems and radars.

The Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces said the measures were preventive and had been taken to protect the airspace, particularly in the Lublin and Subcarpathia regions. Residents of these areas were alerted and asked to take shelter.

The Russian attack targeted regions in western Ukraine, and a Ukrainian official confirmed that the explosions occurred near the border with Poland. At the time of reporting, no drone incursions into Polish airspace had been reported.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk said Poland must be prepared for various scenarios and warned of the risk of further Russian provocations. Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz described the situation as serious and announced the strengthening of air defenses.
