A Russian drone struck a Ukrainian village located two kilometers from the border with Poland

A Russian jet-powered drone struck the Ukrainian village of Starovoitove in the Volyn region on Monday, approximately two kilometers from the Polish border. The explosion damaged a building at the checkpoint at the entrance to the Yahodyn-Dorohusk border terminal. No casualties were reported.

Volyn region acting governor Roman Romaniuk announced that the shockwave affected infrastructure near the border. The crossing and another checkpoint in the area were temporarily evacuated, while footage showed what appeared to be a crashed and exploded drone.

Poland said its airspace had not been violated. Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz stated that air defense systems and military aircraft were ready to intervene. Residents in the eastern part of the country received alerts by phone and on social media on Monday afternoon, urging them to take shelter. The warnings were canceled after approximately 20 minutes, after authorities determined that there was no threat on Polish territory.

The incident occurred on the same day that Russia launched multiple attacks on Ukraine. The border area was recently also affected by strikes on a train and several trucks.
