Russia's massive attack on Ukraine, in Izmail, seen from Tulcea / A drone entered Romania's airspace

A drone entered Romania’s airspace on Sunday evening, in the Ceatalchioi area, Tulcea County, following a Russian attack on the Ukrainian port of Izmail. The incident prompted the Romanian authorities to issue a RO-Alert message and scramble two F-16 aircraft to monitor the situation.

According to the Ministry of National Defence, at 20:35, the radar system detected an aerial target that was initially flying over Ukrainian territory, north of Chilia Veche. The drone subsequently entered Romanian airspace and flew along the border. Its signal disappeared from radar after approximately 10 minutes, near the locality of Somova.

Residents of several areas of Tulcea County filmed the explosions at the port of Izmail, which lit up the sky above the Danube. Images were published by the local platforms Drumuri Dobrogene and Ora de Tulcea, including from the Dallas neighborhood in the municipality of Tulcea and from the locality of Malcoci.

The Tulcea Emergency Situations Inspectorate received three calls from people who heard fighter jets and requested information. The aerial alert status ended at 22:05.
