Drone detected by the Ministry of National Defence north of Isaccea, near the border with Ukraine / A RO-Alert message was issued for northern Tulcea County

A drone was detected overnight from Monday to Tuesday, north of Isaccea, near the river border with Ukraine, by the National Defence Ministry’s surveillance radar system. To monitor the situation, two F-18 aircraft of the Spanish Air and Space Force, deployed for Enhanced Air Policing duty, took off.

The National Military Command Center notified the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, and the population in northern Tulcea County was warned via a RO-Alert message sent at 01:51. The air alert was lifted at 02:10.

The National Defence Ministry states that no drone incursions into national airspace were reported. The incident occurred amid an intensification of air activities associated with the war in Ukraine.

Minister-designate for Defence Radu Miruță stated that, since the beginning of the conflict, 49 unauthorized incursions into Romanian airspace have been recorded, 30 of them in 2026. In addition, 148 attacks have been reported at Romania’s border, 81 of them this year.
