Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk called on Monday, at the Warsaw Security Forum, for the entire West, including Europe and the United States, to adopt a firmer stance toward Russia and strengthen the sanctions imposed on Moscow.
Tusk argued that Russia is fighting for dominance, while Ukraine is fighting for survival. He announced that he would travel to Brussels to persuade European leaders to consider tightening punitive measures against the Kremlin. A European summit is scheduled for this week.
The Polish prime minister reaffirmed Warsaw’s support for Ukraine, which Poland has provided with military and humanitarian aid since the start of Russia’s invasion in February 2022. He has repeatedly accused Russia of sabotage and hybrid warfare on Polish territory, allegations rejected by Moscow.
The statements were made after U.S. President Donald Trump announced an energy truce between Russia and Ukraine, without providing details. Tusk also condemned Russian propaganda, which he compared to the messages used by Nazi propaganda before World War II.
