Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk warned in parliament in Warsaw that Russia could intensify drone and missile attacks in the coming months against Ukraine and Kyiv’s European allies, including Poland. According to Tusk, the warning is based on assessments by intelligence services in NATO, Ukraine and Poland.

Tusk described an increase in Russian attacks on major Ukrainian cities, warehouses, railway infrastructure and other essential logistical targets as the most likely scenario for the period ahead. He said the autumn and winter months could be “tragically critical” for Ukraine.

The Polish prime minister cautioned that drones or missiles could enter the territory of one or more NATO countries on the eastern flank and cause damage, while Russia would claim that the incident was accidental. In his view, Moscow seeks to weaken the Alliance’s unity and create the impression that Article 5 on collective defense is more theoretical than practical.

The warning comes after an intensification of Russian attacks and their expansion toward western Ukraine, near the border with Poland. Tusk also mentioned Ukraine’s difficulties in intercepting Russian drones powered by jet engines. He also referred to statements by U.S. President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly called the principle of collective defense into question.
