Boris Johnson and David Petraeus were at the Iagodin railway station during a Russian attack on a Ukrainian train

Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and former CIA Director David Petraeus were at Yahodyn railway station in western Ukraine shortly before or at the moment Russia struck a train near the Ukrainian-Polish border, the Ukrainian railway operator announced on Sunday.

According to the company, a diplomatic train was at the station shortly before the locomotive of another train was hit. Security advisers from several European Union member states and former European leaders, including Boris Johnson, were on board.

David Petraeus, former director of the United States Central Intelligence Agency, was on another train at Yahodyn station at the time of the attack.

The incident occurred near the border with Poland, an area that is sensitive for rail traffic and diplomatic transport to Ukraine. Authorities have so far provided no information about possible casualties or the extent of the damage. The railway operator stressed, however, that the attack took place while officials and former Western leaders were at the station. The damaged locomotive and the circumstances of the attack remain under investigation.
