The level of the Danube continues to drop dramatically, and the flow at the entrance to Romania has reached 1,600 cubic meters per second, nearly three times lower than the usual average. In the Călărași area, the Borcea branch can be crossed on foot due to the formation of sand and land islands.

This situation severely affects local fishermen, with many boats being pulled ashore due to insufficient depth. Authorities warn that the lowest flow in the recent history of the river could be recorded. The drop in water level endangers the operation of the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant, and Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan has declared a national state of alert for the month of August. Authorities are analyzing solutions to increase the flow in the area of the plant to prevent the shutdown of reactor 2.
