The National Administration Apele Române announced that the water level in the Cernavodă area is -227 cm, below the minimum limit of -230 cm necessary for the operation of the plant. At the same time, the flow of the Danube at the entrance to the country remains stable at 1,400 m³/s, well below the multiannual average of 3,900 m³/s.
Authorities have carried out interventions to redirect the flow of the Danube towards the Bala branch, including the sinking of four barges and the displacement of the Pârjoaia dam. Additionally, on Monday, the government decided to allocate 5.1 million lei for dredging works on the Danube, in order to ensure the operation of the Nuclear Power Plant in Cernavodă.
At the end of July, Romania declared a state of alert due to the decrease in electricity production, and Unit 1 of the Cernavodă NPP was controlled shut down on July 28 due to the low water level.
