Romania has the third lowest minimum wage in the EU, according to Eurostat data.

The gross minimum wage in Romania, set at 825 euros in July, continues to be among the lowest in the European Union, surpassed only by Bulgaria (620 euros) and Latvia (780 euros), according to Eurostat data. On the opposite end, the highest minimum wages in the EU exceed 2,000 euros, with Luxembourg leading (2,771 euros), followed by Ireland (2,391 euros) and Germany (2,343 euros).


Additionally, Eurostat mentions that in five EU countries, the minimum wage is not regulated. Despite its position, Romania has recorded an average annual growth rate of the minimum wage of 11.6% between July 2016 and July 2026, being surpassed only by Lithuania.


The gross minimum wage has recently increased to 4,325 lei per month, a 6.8% increase compared to the previous level of 4,050 lei. This increase applies to a normal working schedule of 166.667 hours per month.
