According to Eurostat data for 2025, Romania ranks third in the European Union in terms of working week duration, with 75.5% of employees working between 40 and 44.5 hours per week. This percentage is surpassed only by Bulgaria (82.8%) and Latvia (77.1%), while the European average is 37.6 hours.

The average working week duration in Romania is 40.1 hours, one of the highest in the EU, alongside Cyprus. Additionally, Romanian employees have a longer working schedule than self-employed workers, an exception in the European Union. The differences between the hours worked by men (38.8 hours) and women (38.2 hours) are minimal compared to the European average. Eurostat emphasizes that this data includes actual hours worked and may be influenced by absences.
