Romania and Bulgaria recorded in 2025 the lowest prices for final household consumption in the European Union, at 35% and 37% below the EU average.

According to data published by the National Institute of Statistics (INS) and Eurostat, Romania and Bulgaria had in 2025 the lowest prices for final household consumption in the European Union, with 35% and 37% below the community average.

Romania was the cheapest country for the category 'Food and non-alcoholic beverages', with prices at 80% of the EU average, followed by Slovakia, Poland, and the Czech Republic. Additionally, Romania recorded the lowest prices for 'Recreation, sport, and culture', at 63% of the European average. Bulgaria remained the cheapest in the EU in several categories, including 'Alcoholic beverages and tobacco' and 'Transport'.

In contrast, Denmark had the highest prices in the EU, at 40% above the community average. The GDP per capita in Romania reached 78% of the EU average, similar to Croatia, while Bulgaria and Greece had a GDP 32% below the European average. The data is based on calculations made by Eurostat in 2026, using information from 36 European countries.
