The court has ruled that the Romanian Post will be required to pay damages of nearly 50 million lei following a lawsuit filed in 2011, related to an unfinished real estate project in the center of Bucharest.
The court's decision, which is not final, stipulates that the money should be transferred to the company Imopost Developments, established in 2005 to capitalize on a plot of land owned by the Post on Calea Victoriei. The damages include expenses for the partial demolition of the construction, as well as costs related to the establishment of the company and land tax. The General Director of the Romanian Post, Valentin Ștefan, confirmed that the institution will appeal within the timeframe set by the court. The land was also involved in a lawsuit in which the Post was accused of harming the state, and several former ministers and directors of the Post were convicted of abuse of office.
