La Poste Group filed a complaint after an employee allegedly abandoned mail in the forests of eastern France

La Poste Group filed a complaint after several envelopes and advertising brochures were found abandoned on Monday in a forest in Saint-Georges-Armont, in the Anteuil area, between Besançon and Montbéliard. The mail was intended for residents of five villages, with just over 1,100 inhabitants.

A forester discovered the mail while in the forest and transported it by car to the gendarmerie station. According to the company, the envelopes had been sent between the end of August and the beginning of September and contained “ordinary letters” and “advertising brochures.”

All the items were put back into distribution starting Thursday, La Poste announced. The company suspects that a person temporarily employed for a period of one month during the summer was behind the incident.

La Poste described the case as an isolated act, contrary to its rules and commitments. The person suspected no longer works for the company, and mail delivery in the area is currently being handled by permanent postal workers. The case was initially reported by the regional publication L’Est Républicain and picked up by News.ro.
