The Capital City Hall, under the leadership of Mayor Ciprian Ciucu, announced on Friday, April 3, the start of the operation to dismantle the rusty and unused streetlights that have been left on public land for decades. "Down with the old stuff! We have started to dismantle the decommissioned streetlights," said Ciucu, who noticed these poles during his tours on the streets. So far, the Street Administration and the Local Police have managed to remove 22 streetlights from Ion Brezoianu, Vasile Sion, Lahovari Square, Ion Rațiu Square, Valter Mărăcineanu, and the intersection of Știrbei Vodă with Ion Câmpineanu. Dismantling is not a simple task, as the poles are 12 meters tall and weigh approximately 150 kg each. Ciucu emphasized that it is necessary to clear the area of cars, use a crane, and cut the poles into pieces for transport. "We continue! We are getting Bucharest in order!" added the mayor.
