The Mayor of the Capital, Ciprian Ciucu, inspected on Wednesday the construction site of the tram line on Dimitrie Pompeiu Boulevard, where he found 52 workers and 16 machines. He emphasized that, although he is criticized for too much work being done in Bucharest, these construction sites are essential for the rehabilitation of the city.
“I am criticized for too much work being done in Bucharest. OK, I take this criticism, but you should know that no city can be repaired and put in order without construction sites,” said Ciprian Ciucu.
The works, which began in April 2026, aim to replace 5.3 km of tram line, with completion expected in the spring of 2027.
Ciucu mentioned that work is being done intensively in the summer to minimize traffic discomfort. The project includes widening the boulevard, creating sidewalks, bike lanes, and expanding the tram infrastructure.
Additionally, a pedestrian bridge and a connecting road between Șos. Pipera and Bd. Dimitrie Pompeiu will be built. The mayor assured that the reconfiguration of traffic will help alleviate congestion in the area.
