Diana Buzoianu, the Minister of the Environment, announced an important success for Romania in the negotiations with the European Union, managing to obtain an additional year, until 2028, for the implementation of the emissions trading scheme in the transport and construction sectors. This decision will allow Romania to better prepare and avoid price increases in these essential sectors, in an already difficult economic context. Buzoianu thanked the member states and the European Commission for their support. EU environment ministers recently met to discuss the targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, in the perspective of the UN Conference COP30. The EU aims to become climate neutral by 2050, and by the end of this decade, member countries must reduce emissions by 55% compared to 1990 levels. Negotiations continue to establish new commitments, in the context of current economic and geopolitical challenges.
