Fuel prices continued to rise day by day, despite the excise duty cuts introduced by the Government. According to data analyzed by New Money using the Fuel Price Monitor app, standard petrol is nearing the threshold of 10 lei per liter at major filling station networks.
On Friday, standard petrol cost 9.88 lei per liter at Lukoil, 9.91 lei at Petrom, and 9.97 lei at OMV, MOL and Rompetrol. Premium petrol was sold at prices ranging between 10.39 and 10.54 lei per liter.
Standard diesel cost 10.37 lei per liter at Petrom and Lukoil, and 10.43 lei at MOL, OMV and Rompetrol. Premium diesel prices exceeded 11 lei, reaching 11.14 lei at Petrom, 11.18 lei at Lukoil, and 11.24 lei at OMV, MOL and Rompetrol.
The excise duty on diesel was reduced twice in a single month. On August 16, the reduction was 20%, while from September 1 it was increased to 25%.
The measure is based on Law No. 162/2026, which introduces the biweekly adjustment of the excise duty on standard diesel, depending on Platts quotations and the average price at the pump. The Government says the mechanism is intended to maintain support for transport operators and limit the impact of price increases on operating costs.
