Diesel prices rose again today. What are the prices at gas stations?

The price of diesel has exceeded the threshold of 10 lei per liter at stations in Romania, despite a 25% reduction in the excise duty. The lowest prices are found at some Socar stations, where a liter costs approximately 10.29 lei, while the highest are at Lukoil stations, at around 10.36 lei per liter.

The price increases are attributed to developments in international petroleum product prices. Diesel margins have reached record levels in Europe and the United States, while global supply is limited by insufficient refining capacity, reduced Russian exports, and a seasonal increase in demand.

The wars in Ukraine and Iran have affected refineries in Russia and the Middle East, reducing the availability of refined products. Russell Hardy, Vitol’s chief executive, warned that the market is losing millions of barrels per day from these regions and that global reserves are approaching the available limit.

Without the excise duty reduction, the price of diesel would have been approximately 85 bani higher per liter, exceeding 11 lei at all stations. The government also proportionally reduced the compensation granted to transport operators for the diesel excise duty.
