The interim Minister of the Environment, Diana Buzoianu, announced on Monday that she has requested the control body to conduct an urgent inspection on how environmental issues have been prioritized in the counties of Ialomița, Gorj, Suceava, Timiș, and Tulcea.
She emphasized the need to verify whether the actions of the environmental protection agencies reflect a genuine concern for systemic environmental issues or if they are limited to superficial sanctions. She cited complaints received from citizens, who accuse the collaboration between the Environmental Guard and local authorities, as well as the lack of response to reports regarding environmental issues.
Although she acknowledged improvements in the activity of the Environmental Guard, Buzoianu highlighted the existence of irregularities and criticized the behavior of some inspectors who do not act in the interest of the community. The Minister stressed that Romania needs concrete actions to address serious environmental issues, not just reports that conceal the reality.
