Cristian Bușoi, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Energy, has announced that he signed on Friday, in Luxembourg, a tripartite agreement regarding energy storage, during the meeting of the Energy Ministers of the European Union.

The agreement, which will be implemented during the period 2026-2028, aims to strengthen energy storage capacities at the European level, facilitating the integration of renewable sources and reducing energy prices. Bușoi emphasized that the development of storage capacities is a major challenge for the European energy system, estimating that the EU will require approximately 200 GW of storage capacity by 2030, compared to 55 GW at the beginning of 2026.

The agreement is part of the European Union's efforts to accelerate the energy transition and increase the share of renewable energy in the energy mix, considering the importance of storage capacities for balancing the system and stabilizing prices.
