Paul Anghel, general director of the General Directorate for Control and Market Supervision within ANPC, announced on Facebook that he has been sent to trial by DNA, along with other colleagues, for charges of blackmail. Anghel claims that he does not consider himself guilty and that he will prove the truth before the court. He emphasizes that he has been dedicated to consumer protection and that the accusations are unjust, based on weak evidence.
DNA accused that, between October 2024 and January 2025, Anghel and others acted against the public interest, moving a person from their position to satisfy political interests. Additionally, Anghel allegedly exerted pressure on the injured party to make them resign from their position. Currently, he is under judicial control, but he has obtained permission to return to the leadership of ANPC, according to a decision by the Bucharest Court of Appeal.
