The Huțulca Mocănița from Moldovița derailed on Tuesday, September 15, in the Moldovița–Vatra Moldoviței area, Suceava County, during railway shunting operations. The locomotive left the narrow-gauge track and ended up on the roadway. There were no tourists on the train, and no one was injured.
Initial information points to a possible technical failure. A hook or another locomotive coupling component may have failed during the shunting operations, causing the derailment. The exact cause will be determined after a technical inspection of the train assembly.
The incident was not reported to the emergency number 112, as there were no casualties and no medical intervention was needed. Images from the scene show the locomotive with its wheels off the railway track and part of the vehicle on the asphalt.
The Huțulca Mocănița is one of Bucovina’s emblematic tourist attractions. The train operates on the Moldovița–Argel route, approximately 25 kilometers round trip, as well as on the shorter Moldovița–Vatra Moldoviței route. It has not yet been announced whether the derailment will affect the schedule of the next services.
