DNA conducts 54 searches in four counties / Border officials suspected of taking money to allow the passage of goods from Ukraine

Prosecutors from the National Anticorruption Directorate are conducting 54 searches in the counties of Suceava, Botoșani, Iași and Neamț in a case involving suspicions of corruption among public officials working for border authorities.

According to DNA, the investigation concerns alleged acts that took place between 2023 and 2026. Several officials are suspected of having received various sums of money to perform acts contrary to their official duties and to allow individuals to cross border points in northeastern Romania with prohibited goods or products brought from Ukraine in excess of the legal limit.

The searches are being conducted at the premises of several public institutions, at the homes of private individuals, and at the headquarters and work locations of economic operators. The operation is coordinated by DNA prosecutors from the Suceava Territorial Service.

Investigators are set to seize documents and other relevant evidence to establish the alleged corruption mechanism, the individuals involved and the damage caused. The searches are part of the criminal investigation, and the persons concerned benefit from the presumption of innocence until a final court ruling is issued.
