The Embassy of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta in Romania denies having issued Călin Georgescu a “diplomatic” ID card found during searches

The Embassy of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta in Romania announced on Monday that it had not issued Călin Georgescu any identification document and that he is not a member of the Order. The clarification comes after DIICOT searches at Georgescu’s home in Mogoșoaia, where investigators allegedly found a document presented as a “diplomatic” identification document.

According to judicial sources cited by AGERPRES, the document bears the title “DIPLOMATIC ID” and the name “Order of Malta, Sovereign Order Hospitalliers of Saint John of Jerusalem”. The identification document includes Călin Georgescu’s name and photograph and was allegedly discovered in his villa.

In a statement, representatives of the Order stressed that the person mentioned is not a member of the organization and that the institution has never issued such a document. The Embassy warned that several fake orders exist in Romania, known as “imitation orders,” which have allegedly misused the symbols of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta.

The document is being examined as part of the investigation, while its origin and the manner in which it was used are to be established by the authorities. These clarifications represent the Order’s first official position since information emerged about the identification document found during the searches.
