What prosecutors found following the searches at Călin Georgescu’s home / DIICOT’s clarifications

DIICOT prosecutors conducted searches Monday morning at Călin Georgescu’s residence in Mogoșoaia, Ilfov County. According to judicial sources, he was reportedly stopped in traffic and taken to his home so that the searches could be conducted in his presence.

The investigation concerns a case involving an alleged fraud with estimated damages of 1.1 million euros. According to DIICOT, prosecutors are conducting investigations into the formation of an organized criminal group and fraud with particularly serious consequences.

As part of the operation, searches are being conducted at five addresses in Mogoșoaia, Ciolpani, Buftea, and Bucharest. Călin Georgescu was detained for 24 hours, according to judicial sources.

According to the DIICOT press release, jamming systems, written records, data-storage devices, and identity documents were seized during the operations, including two passports and an identification card suspected of being counterfeit. The documents will be examined by experts.

DIICOT announced that it would refer the matter to the judge for rights and liberties at the Bucharest Tribunal, with a proposal to remand the two defendants in custody for 30 days.

The investigation is being conducted together with police officers from the Criminal Investigations Directorate of the General Romanian Police Inspectorate, with the support of gendarmes.

The persons under investigation benefit from the presumption of innocence.
