Călin Georgescu was brought to the DIICOT headquarters on Tuesday, after being taken out of the Central Detention Center, for further criminal prosecution procedures in the case in which he is being investigated for fraud, involving alleged damages of 1.1 million euros. The former presidential candidate was transported in a van and brought into the institution through the courtyard of the headquarters, with his hands handcuffed. He made no statements.
Prosecutors are conducting digital searches of the electronic devices seized following the searches carried out at the home of the two spouses from Mogoșoaia. Investigators are trying to retrace the flow of the money and clarify the connections between the people targeted in the case.
Cristela Georgescu had previously arrived at DIICOT, where she is due to be questioned as a witness. Supporters of her husband gathered at the institution’s headquarters, welcoming her with cheers and chanting that she is the “First Lady.”
Investigations continue after the questioning of Călin Georgescu’s father-in-law, Vasile Moldoveanu, and after the checks carried out in the case of businessman Ionel Rusen. Călin Georgescu and Ionel Rusen were placed in preventive detention for 30 days, a measure ordered by the Bucharest Court of Appeal and remaining final.
