Cristela Georgescu arrived at the DIICOT headquarters on Wednesday morning, for the second day of digital searches in the fraud case in which her husband, Călin Georgescu, is being held in preventive detention. She was summoned as a witness, but the law allows her to refuse to give a statement, since she is the wife of the person under investigation.
Călin Georgescu also arrived at the DIICOT headquarters a few minutes after his wife, brought in a van and in handcuffs. On Tuesday, he was transported to the institution's headquarters for the first day of digital searches. On Monday, Cristela Georgescu's father was questioned as a witness, but refused to give a statement.
Prosecutors are analyzing approximately 80-90 devices seized following the searches conducted at the Georgescu family's properties, including phones, laptops, and tablets. Messages and video recordings are being checked, with the investigation focusing mainly on the transfer of more than one million euros from the accounts of businessman Răzvan Leu. According to prosecutors, some of the money may have been used in Călin Georgescu's electoral campaign.
Also on Wednesday, the Bucharest Tribunal is scheduled to hear the appeal filed by Călin Georgescu against the seizure imposed by prosecutors on the villa in Mogoșoaia.
