Cristela Georgescu was questioned as a witness at the DIICOT headquarters earlier this week, as part of the investigation into the alleged €1.1 million loss involving her husband, Călin Georgescu. The statements were made on the institution’s steps, after the two spouses met at the DIICOT headquarters.
Cristela Georgescu stated that the questioning was a normal procedure, similar to the one her father took part in the day before. However, she claimed that her family had been subjected to interventions that she described as “brutal and unacceptable,” referring to the searches carried out at the home in Mogoșoaia.
“We are an ordinary family and we have been subjected to brutal, unacceptable interventions (…) it is important for you to realize that you could find yourself in this situation one day,” said Cristela Georgescu.
Călin Georgescu’s wife accused authorities of alleged political persecution, unfounded accusations, and violating the presumption of innocence. She also claimed that confidential information from the case file had reached the press before being presented to the judge and accused President Nicușor Dan of having exerted pressure on Călin Georgescu’s public image before the trial.
On Tuesday, October 6, Călin Georgescu was brought from the Central Detention Center to DIICOT, where prosecutors are conducting forensic searches of the devices seized from the family’s home. Investigators are checking the trail of sums exceeding one million euros.
