Cristela and Călin Georgescu were brought on Tuesday, October 6, to the headquarters of DIICOT, to participate in the digital searches carried out in the case in which the former presidential candidate is being held in preventive detention. Cristela Georgescu has witness status, while her husband was brought from the Central Detention Facility.
Investigators are checking the devices seized during the investigation and are trying to recover any deleted messages, in order to clarify the links between the persons concerned and the flow of money. According to judicial sources, the procedures are due to be completed on Tuesday, and Cristela Georgescu is said to have made an appointment to visit her husband at the Central Detention Facility.
At the same time, according to the same sources, Călin Georgescu requested that his preventive detention be replaced with a more lenient measure.
He and businessman Ionel Rusen were placed in preventive detention for 30 days by a decision of the Bucharest Court of Appeal on September 29.
The case concerns allegations of forming an organized criminal group and fraud with particularly serious consequences, in connection with alleged damages of approximately 1.1 million euros. On Wednesday, the Bucharest Tribunal is examining the appeal against the seizure imposed on the residence in Mogoșoaia. The allegations are under investigation, and the persons concerned benefit from the presumption of innocence.
