The National Anticorruption Directorate opened a criminal case on September 16, 2026, after images emerged showing bags, boxes and other goods being placed in the official car used by Dantes Nicolae Bratu, the state inspector general of the Labor Inspectorate. Prosecutors are investigating in rem possible acts of bribery and offering bribes, with the document not indicating the existence of a suspect or defendant.

The investigation is being conducted by the DNA’s Section for Combating Offenses Assimilated to Corruption Offenses and currently concerns whether the acts occurred and the circumstances in which they allegedly took place. Prosecutors asked the Labor Inspectorate to identify the people shown in the report, including the driver and representatives of the territorial inspectorates in Călărași, Timiș and Constanța.

The DNA also requested documents concerning the appointments and departures from office of the leadership of the Labor Inspectorate and its territorial structures for the period September 2–15, 2026.

The images published by Mediafax were recorded around a meeting held in Bucharest on September 10. Some people claimed that the bags contained institutional goods, such as wheel stoppers or laptop security cables, which were due to be returned. Other images allegedly show goods being transferred into a private car. Prosecutors will verify all these aspects.
