DNA detained for 24 hours Mihai Niță, head of the Ilfov Driving Licenses and Vehicle Registration Service, and Cosmin Dobre, a coordinator within the service, in a case concerning the establishment of an organized criminal group and repeated bribery.
A police subinspector from the service, Dan-Mircea Grigore, was placed under judicial supervision for 60 days. The investigation also targets other police officers and driving instructors, accused of accepting or offering bribes. The two are to be brought before the Bucharest Tribunal, with a request for 30 days of preventive detention.
According to prosecutors, the group was allegedly initiated in 2026 and operated on three levels: examiners, driving instructors, and counter staff. Its members allegedly facilitated passing the practical test, preferential scheduling of candidates, and the expedited issuance or replacement of documents.
DNA claims that Niță allegedly received, between January and August 2026, amounts ranging from 100 lei to 600 euros. Dobre allegedly received, between March and August, between 100 and 700 lei, as well as other benefits. The allegations are being investigated as part of the criminal prosecution.
