The Norwegian public transport operator Ruter has announced that it will introduce stricter safety requirements and will intensify anti-hacking measures, after recent tests showed that electric buses manufactured by Yutong Group from China can be stopped remotely. The tests, conducted under controlled conditions, revealed that the Chinese manufacturer has access to control systems for software updates and diagnostics, which could be exploited.
Yutong stated that it complies with local laws and that the data is encrypted and used only for maintenance. This issue raises broader concerns regarding the remote control of electric vehicles, and Ruter emphasized that it will implement measures to protect data systems. The Danish company Movia also announced that it is reviewing risk assessments to prevent hacking.
