Iran will not reopen the Strait of Hormuz after the agreement negotiated with Oman if the United States does not resume the commitments it made in the memorandum of understanding for peace signed in June, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said.

According to the official, the agreement with Oman, which is due to be presented on Monday, will establish safe navigation routes, but will not mean the reopening of the strait. Araqchi specified that the details and maps of the new route will be presented to the states participating in the meeting in the port city of Salalah.

Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Iraq are expected to attend the meeting. Bahrain announced that it would not participate, citing Iranian attacks on infrastructure and civilian property.

The Islamabad memorandum provides for the cessation of hostilities, the lifting of the American naval blockade, the reopening of the strait by Iran, the removal of oil sanctions and the unfreezing of Iranian funds. Implementation of the agreement was blocked by disputes over control of maritime routes.
